今天買的東西(kymmie thinks it's very me to buy such diversified titles):
-CD: tanto tempo, bebel gilberto
-CD: now the day is over, the innocence mission
-Markus Zusak, the Book Thief (the one and only english copy i've seen in this city, had to buy)
-Excel 2007
-His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, The Laws of Nature An Infallible Justice*
-The Rev. Alvin V.P. Hart, Satyaraja Dasa Adhikari, Krsna Consciousness and Christianity*
I: oh books! u like to read?
M: yes i do. (we reach her floor)
I: you know, i have a lot of books on spirituality, if you're interested.
M: oh, um, yes i am! i should get home now but i'll come back some oth..
I: would you like to come in now? (still holding elevator door)
M: ....ok. (go into Indian household with walls filled of hinduist portraits)
I: ok so i have a lot (takes out nicely wrapped books)..here..
M: oh, this is called Bhagavad Gita...
I: yes, it's very good, that's our equivalent of the Christian Bible..
M: oh, ok, i see..(looks at book with ox-faced man raising ax ready to chop off head of man-faced ox)..this seems interesting.
I: yes, that is very nice, you should read that. and here, this will be good too, it's east-west conversation, about krishna and christianity.
M: ah yes it does sound very interesting, like a comparison thing! ok so i think i'll take these three. so i'll give them back to you when i finish..
I: would you like to buy them?
M: ....ah..i see they're for sale..oh that's why they were wrapped. hmm ok, i think i won't take the Bible one because it's...got sanskrit in it.
I: yes, that might be more difficult for you.
M: ok, cool, so i'll take these two...(reluctantly take out 1000 dollar bill and wait 10 minutes for change while staring at picture of Ganesha the elephant-headed god)
I: here is your change. oh, so when you finish those books, if you have any questions, you can come down anytime and we can have a discussion.
M: ok, that sounds good, thanks very much and happy mid-autumn!
i guess she's being a good hinduist lady and hasn't given up the hope to convert me since that last failed attempt, where i only went to the sing-song praying session for the indian food. i promise to make an effort to be open-minded and learn about my neighbor's religion this time. really i do.
