be careful what you wish for. ask and you shall receive. so the sayings go.
this morning, amidst chaos, i felt desperately in need of an alcoholic beverage at 10:30am. i promptly changed my msn tag to "where is the booze?" hen8 sent a beer over fbook, while some suggested an actual drink after work, and i was thus momentarily comforted by overflowing friendship. but the desire does not easily wane. 2 hours later to my pleasant surprise, our PR retainer sends over a beautifully set box of chocolates from the hyatt and (gasp!) a bottle of red wine, as a part of the celebrated business practice for mid-autumn festival. this must have been the 7th or 8th bottle i've gotten over the years (some also send for cny), and as usual i hide it under my desk since it would be mildly inappropriate to start drinking alone in my cubicle, and would make no sense to try and share with 12 other people in the office. i did, however, share the chocolates.
but the moral of the story is that, as illustrated in the recent bestseller "the secret," the mind is a powerful tool and positive thinking definitely more-often-than-not leads to positive results. i don't want to sound like a chirpy freak (ie people in the "secret" movie = chirpy freaks) but i'm starting to really believe it. you just have to want it badly enough, and not wish for anything TOO unrealistic, such as winning the lottery. but i think meeting the man of your dreams is ok. hahaha.
am planning to spend the long weekend stuffing my face with mooncakes and gulping wine. perhaps the bbq if people really do turn up. will start wishing for bbq guests *wink*
