sometimes i forget i like fashion. sometimes i forget i work in it. sometimes i forget i used to be right in the middle of where it all happened. the ss08 rtw shows have started in milano, in rainy dreary september. i remember walking by the gucci show in porta venezia, trying to get a glimpse of the models the stars and the who's whos. it too was a bit drizzling, but i had a gelato in hand very possibly pistacchio, and tried to soak in all that glitz and glamour. then before i realized it, anna wintour with her unmistakable bob and strand of pearl necklace was standing right next to me, waiting to enter the show. this is, of course, the person on whom the movie 'devil wears prada' was based on, and me in my impressionable youth was in awe.

those were fun days for a young girl living in a fashion capital. there were endless parties, bottomless drinks, and everywhere you go, people with style. the italians had it in them, but the rest of the population spent hours putting together a perfect outfit for an event, so that they'll feel good about themselves, and maybe some people will look at them. thinking back on it now it all seems a bit silly, although it was a bit thrilling to have own pictures taken holding champagne dressed in long cream-coloured coat, skinny jeans and caramel corduroy cap with blue sequins, at the wallpaper magazine party =p

and now, some years later and far removed from that life, today i started to remember why i liked it all in the first place. it's how style gives you a sense of confidence, or the other way around, how confidence brings out a style in a person. i've always believed in being comfortable in whatever i wear, not to be pretentious or flaunt, or someone i'm not. today when i came across this picture of the elegant lady, in beautiful tulip skirt and casual hoodie paired with classic jacket, so confidently leaning against a motorcycle with her gelato, and smiling, i'm reminded of the magic of fashion, and how it is always the person that defines the clothes.
