random

the rain has returned after a mostly glorious sunny week. drab drab drab. my insomnia and totally screwed-up sleeping pattern continue and i woke up very early (which is a relative term, not early as in the actual hour i woke up, but in relation to when i had gone to bed) this morning with a scratchy throat and a grouchy mood. after wrapping up a translation file i drifted back to sleep in which i dreamed about having depression in even worse weather and dropping my socks into a men's urinal.

what uplifting paragraph!!!

but i feel better now having showered and eaten a self-made pastrami sandwich, plus half cup of coffee (in hope that i can sleep before 3am today). that is good. i made myself mushroom risotto on the weekend, which turned out yellow for some reason but tasty nonetheless.

with less than 2 weeks to go i am getting slightly anxious about the election. it's not a society-gone-mad this time and the fact that i'm not going back in time for it means that people are not as worked up anymore about who runs the country (that is, of course, until someone gets shot the day before the election). some foreigners have remarked negatively on the taiwanese' political fervor but i take a very strong stand against these comments. i love how the people are always hopeful for a better future and, as bipartisan as the society is, care a lot. the democracy might be wobbly and infantile in structure, but people do treasure it. i'm glad that it's proceeding in a quieter way this time, though. and have started the countdown.
