on the eighth day of the new year

i figured i should start writing in the blog for the new year, so this is #1 for 2010!

it's been over 3 years since i abandoned blog #1 and began this one. this may be the longest i've done ANYTHING on a voluntary basis, and have never thought about quitting. today (technically yesterday) i chatted with bb about her blog, which chronicled her life back in Toronto pre-real doctor/wifehood, and which she killed after moving back to Vancouver. now as she is to enter a new chapter in her life, she is considering (i hope) a new blog as well.

this brought up a fleeting thought that'd occurred to me the other day. i killed the last blog when i ended a relationship, a clean slate but also a place to sulk and mourn and heal in private, but what if this one ends? does that mean i have to kill this blog too and begin a new one?

my answer was no. this blog has become my life. it has become my friend. it's about nothing important, just random ramblings of a uselessly self-reflective nature, but then, after some 437 entries, it has become something quite like the backbone of my life. ok, maybe just bones in my right arm. and so it will go on like this, even if people leave my life and things change, i too will write about them in here, and then get on with my life, and write about that in here too. (but no, don't really feel like anyone's leaving anytime soon =))

on an ending note, i watched the movie julie & julia tonight, a true story about a 30 year old woman who started a blog about making all the dishes in Julie Child's legendary cook book in 365 days. it saw her go from an underachiever who never finished anything to becoming not only a great cook, but also a real writer whose story got adapted into a movie. that was pretty inspiring. now if only i could find something more interesting to write about other than my little life.....
