am totally immersed in the story of "the glass castle," a compelling memoir about brilliant free-spirited parents (=irresponsible drunk dad and hippie mom) bringing up 4 children in unconventional ways filled with dreams, imagination, and possibilities. they went without shoes, lived in desert among wild animals, defying city rules and embracing art, nature, and knowledge.
i wonder what it's like to live like that. apparently it makes the kids tough, brave, extremely smart, wind up on park avenue successful types. (although, parents prefer to remain homeless in the streets of new york, rooting trash cans scraping for food.)
makes my wandering heart itch a little bit. must tell self to stay put, and stop wanting to roam the world. it's not so much fun when i do it alone.
