I'll Be Seeing You

From year 2006 to 2009, my life was kind of up in the air, and NOT the George Clooney-meets-hot-woman-in-airport-lounge-and-sadly-collects-mileage-memberships way. I started a blog to collect my thoughts and to bring me closer to the ground. It turned out to be a therapeutic and private outlet for creative energy and pent-up angst. As my life calmed down starting 2010, I've seldom written anything in-depth or personal in it, and at the same time I began to share things with a lot more people on Facebook and on Weibo, where things are kept short and sweet.

I kept a tradition on this blog to sum things up at the end of a year and as 2012 is soon upon us, I began to draft this year's entry. But 2011 was pretty simple for me, as it was simply great. I have a job that always feels new, an aspect so mentally satisfying that I even find excitement in the occasional accompanying physical exhaustion; a more balanced lifestyle that sees me to the yoga studio and Bollywood dance lessons and time alone with my Kindle; friends who have continued to embark on different journeys in life--marriage, motherhood, entrepreneurship and well, a lot of them in Shanghai--but have managed to keep each other in the loop; family that has welcomed a new addition (brother-courts-ex-coworker extravaganza) and is generally at leisure; and finally a boyfriend who underwent yet another life-changing event but has resolutely remained the steadying force in my life.

And so, this blog feels a little strange and distant for me now, for it started when I was in my worst state and served as a nurturing sanctuary, which I no longer need. I am happy, strong, and content, long and far removed from the misery with which the blog began. So let this be my last entry, to store the past away with a smile and a wave. If I ever feel like writing again, it will be somewhere brand new, like the year that's upon us (end of the world or not!). Thank you to those who have kept coming back here, you were the strength and reason that saw me through it all.

With love,
Monica

A beautiful end to this blog as another chapter begins. It's been quite the ride, thank you for sharing.
