i believe i am currently suffering from a type of information anxiety disorder, as i panick whenever i feel that there is so much to learn about everything, and i'm not learning enough, or fast enough. it occurrs to me that this might be an issue of concern as it now applies to every aspect of my life:
work: i work in a company with little financial or human resources, at least temporarily. this makes me feel like i need to know a lot more than i thought i needed to know, and now i am not only a marketing/creativity person, but have to study up on entrepreneurship and everything technical there is to know about creating a website that will make money. thus i am listening to yale lectures on start-ups on my ipod, reading about cascading style sheets as i am hiring a website designer, and writing a businesss plan, pretty much simultaneously. as a perk, i have every excuse to play farm and restaurant games on facebook, as it is required field study. am also contemplating the feasibility of learning html.
entertainment: i am also fully devoted to the medical drama series House MD in my spare time. i turn on the subtitles so i know how bizarre, medical-school diseases are spelled, which i promptly look up on http://www.politedissent.com/house_pd.html to get a clearer picture of the medical plot. i panic slightly if i miss how a diagnosis is made, and i feel that everything must make sense before i can move on with the show. this, of course, prolongs the amount of time it takes to watch an episode, but i am still going pretty fast at 4 episodes per night (don't even really feel the need to see boyfriend). given the number of mistakes House makes on each show, i'd say that about 30 new diseases i learn about each night. (most frequently used: lupus and vasculitis).
social networking: am attending web marketing seminar for 5 consecutive thursdays, start-up networking happy hour every last tuesday of the month, not to mention countless lunches with people who can be potential investors/partners/people who will work for me for free. despite the comfort brought by the food and alcoholic beverages served at these events, every one of these meetings brings more information that i feel i need to be "in on," contributing to this already-brewing sense of panic.
and so i am now conducting full-scale research on bali vacation packages.
